Cate Blanchett to Make Broadway Debut
Cate Blanchett, who is two-time Academy Award winner, three-time Golden Globe winner, three-time Critics Choice Awards winner and many more, will make her Broadway debut next season in a new adaptation of Chekhov’s first play, “The Present”, directed by John Crowley (director of the movie Brooklyn and two episode of True detective) and written by her husband Andrew Upton.
This will be Blanchett’s debut on Broadway but not in theater. She was on stage several times before in “Hedda Gabler”, “A Streetcar Named Desire”, “Uncle Vanya” and “The Maids”.
“The present” is set in a country house in the 1900s Russia. Cate Blanchett will be a once-wealthy widow celebrating her 40th birthday, Anna Petrovna. The production will also star Richard Roxburgh, making his Broadway debut as Platonov.
