Tatiana Maslany is a Canadian actress playing eleven characters in the TV show Orphan Black. Yes, eleven! She plays clones who have different lives, different looks, they are from different countries, different backgrounds… Sarah Manning, Cosima Niehaus, Alison Hendrix, Helena, Rachel Duncan and many other women that Tatiana Maslany brings to life in a unique way, making us forget this is the same actress playing them all.

The TV show is addictive and fresh. The make up and costume team deserve a special mention due to their complicated and incredible job. The technical difficulties in this show are enormous, considering they have to shoot scenes where most of the characters involved is the same actress. They use multiple techniques and advanced technology to get the best results in this laborious task, but they also use simple things like a tennis ball to help Tatiana know where the other clones are in the scene.

Personally, the scenes I enjoy the most are the ones with more than one clone together. They are perfectly done and brilliantly written.

On Imdb we can read the plot of the show: “A streetwise hustler is pulled into a compelling conspiracy after witnessing the suicide of a girl who looks just like her.” And this is just the beginning. Orphan Black offers something new every season and they keep surprising us. Over the seasons we get to meet more clones and  we even get to know another clone project with male subjects. However, there aren’t just clones in is this show. All the characters are full of life and complexity. We never know who is good and who is bad, or even if there is such thing.

Action, drama, sci-fi and “dark” comedy all put together to make an incredible show that will make you want to see more from minute one.

For those like me who prefer video to words, here is a playlist where you can watch the shooting of complicated scenes, interviews talking about the characters and much more including a clone dance party.

Just one. I’m a few. No family too. Who am I?
